How to Track Sales by Product Category

Learn about the Sales by Category Report and how to export it to an Excel file.

Dividing products into categories makes sales easier and helps you analyze performance based on each category. Rewaa provides the Sales by Category Report, which allows you to identify which categories achieve the highest sales and profits by location.


Access the Report

  • Go to Reports > Sales > Sales by Category.

  • Click the report to view details.

Search for a Specific Category

  • Enter the category name in the search field.

Filter the Results

  1. Click Filter.

  2. You can filter results by:

    • Date range

    • Category name

    • Location

  3. Click Apply.

Sort the Data

  • Click the View by field.

  • Select the desired sort option to display the report data.

Report Sections

  • Summary: Shows total sales by category.

  • Details: Shows sales by category based on the selected period or filter.

Report Data

Category

Based on the category defined in the product data.

Location

The branch where the sale was made.

Sales

Total completed sales for the category, excluding VAT, minus returns and discounts.

Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)

Total cost of sales from the category, minus the total cost of products returned from the same category.

Gross Margin

Product sales excluding VAT minus the cost of goods sold.

Sales Including VAT

Total sales for the product, minus returns and discounts.

Sold Quantity

The number of products sold, without deducting the returned quantity.

Example: If 10 units were sold and 3 units were returned, the sold quantity is recorded as 10.

Returned Quantity

The number of products returned.

Export the Report

  1. Click Export:

    • To export detailed data: select xlsx.

    • To export the summary: select summary xlsx.

  2. The Excel file will be downloaded to your device.


FAQs

  1. What is the effect of changing the product category after it was sold on the Sales by Category Report?
    The product’s sales figures will move to the new category in this report.

  2. I removed the category from a product. Will it affect the numbers in the Sales by Category Report?
    Yes. When you remove the category from a product, its sales will be deducted from that category in this report.

  3. I added a category to a product after it was sold. Will the numbers reflect in the Sales by Category Report?
    Yes. All numbers will be reflected in the category in this report, whether the product was assigned to the category before or after the sale.

  4. How do I know which category is the best-selling?
    Use the View by field and select Best-selling first.

  5. Why don’t all the data appear in the report?
    Use the scroll bar below the table to view all the data, or click Export to display all data in Excel.

  6. Why is the total sales amount in the Sales by Category Report different from other reports?
    Because the Sales by Category Report is dedicated to sales of products classified into categories. Make sure your products are categorized for them to appear in this report.
